Objective
You will get an overview of the different phases of an electrical design project and outline the structure of the low voltage electricity network and the factors influencing its dimensioning. Studying in this course requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering and you will need this knowledge in the other courses in this module.
EUR-ACE ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You recognize the importance of standards and regulations in electrical engineering. You are familiar with the calculation and simulation programs used as a engineering aid and know how to use them to help design components and protections. You will know the basics of load calculation and the technical sizing methods used in the selection of components. You have knowledge of the general electricity distribution network and the electricity network of buildings and you know how to dimension their components.
EUR-ACE MULTIDISCIPLINARY EXPERTISE
You will understand the multidimensional nature of electrical engineering and understand its implications for safety, environmental and economic issues, as well as the great responsibility of the designer in these. You recognize the industry is constantly evolving and changing and you are ready to evolve with it.
Content
In this course, you will gain an overall understanding of the different phases of an electrical design project and grasp the structure and sizing factors of low-voltage electrical networks. The course requires basic knowledge of electrical engineering, and the skills learned will be essential for other courses in this module. You will understand the importance of standards and regulations in electrical design and be able to use calculation and simulation software for component and protection sizing. This course equips you with the skills to work as an electrical designer, considering safety, environmental, and economic aspects.
Regulations and standards to be complied with
Design process
Calculation of load and fault currents
Technical sizing of power system components
Different protection methods
Grounding and equipotential bonding
Calculation and simulation software
Materials
Described in a learning environment.
Teaching methods
-lectures
-self studies
-distance learning
-exercises
-learning tasks
Exam schedules
The dates and methods of the midterm exams will be announced in the course opening information.
Completion alternatives
The admission procedures are described in the degree rule and the study guide. The teacher of the course will give you more information on possible specific course practices.
Student workload
One credit corresponds to an average of 27 hours of work, which means that the load of five credits is approximately 135 hours. The load is distributed in different ways depending on the course implementation.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Adequate (1): You understand the basics and terminology, but you have shortcomings in interpreting the key issues. The responsibility of design work is not reflected in the your actions.
Satisfactory (2): You understand the basics and terminology, but applying things is challenging. You will understand the implications of design work more broadly.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Good (3): You know the different stages of an electrical engineering project and take responsibility for the quality of the work. You know how to dimension components and protection and you can verify your results.
Very good (4): You master the key things and know how to apply them in a variety of ways.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Excellent (5): You master the key things and know how to apply them in many ways. Your grip is knowledgeable.
Qualifications
Basic knowledge of electrical engineering
