The content of the course is divided into themes, after each of which students can reflect on what they have learned through workshops or exams.

Lectures once a week throughout the semester on the main campus.

Teaching methods

In this course collaborative learning method is used. In concrete this means the following activities in this implementation: lectures, group discussions, workshops and self-study.

The content of the course is divided into themes and the evaluation is based on the reflective exams conducted after each theme.

Employer connections

Course includes visiting specialists supporting student's knowhow about the current themes in strategic management.

Exam schedules

The course includes three exams, the first of which is carried out as an observed group discussion in the third week of the course.
In addition, there are two individual exams, which are carried out after the themes have been discussed in the contact lessons of the course.

According to the degree regulations, students have the opportunity to retake the exams two times in case they have been failed. These retake exams are announced to students during the first contact of the course.

International connections

Internationalisation aspect is accommodated to this implementation using international examples and material of current topics in strategic management.

Completion alternatives

You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.

The recognition of prior learning is possible in three primary ways: accreditation (replacement or inclusion), recognition of informal learning and studification. More precise info: Jamk Degree Regulations, section 17.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

The general criteria of the competences that the Bachelor's Degrees awarded by Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences provide can be found on JAMK's web pages. The learning outcomes of individual courses are assessed in relation to the objectives of the course concerned. Assessment is based on knowledge, skills and competence in accordance with the National and European Qualifications Framework, level 6.

Assessment methods are based on learning objectives.

Unless otherwise defined in the curriculum, a course accepted as completed is assessed on the following five-step scale:


1 (Sufficient) The student identifies different current perspectives in strategic management. The student understands the meaning of ethicality, diversity and responsibility in strategic management. The student applies practical solutions in responsibility communications into practice.

2 (Satisfactory) The student understands different current perspectives in strategic management. The student can explain the meaning of ethicality, diversity and responsibility in strategic management. The student applies practical solutions in responsibility communications into practice.

If the student does not meet the minimum criteria set for the course, the grade is 0 (Fail).

Assessment criteria, good (3)

3 (Good) The student can explain different current perspectives in strategic management. The student demonstrates the meaning of ethicality, diversity and responsibility in strategic management. The student applies practical solutions in responsibility communications into practice and is able to analyze the solutions.

4 (Very Good) The student can current perspectives in strategic management. The student evaluates the meaning of ethicality, diversity and responsibility in strategic management. The student applies practical solutions in responsibility communications into practice and is able to analyze and compare chosen solutions.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

5 (Excellent) The student can critisize current perspectives in strategic management. The student evaluates the meaning of ethicality, diversity and responsibility in strategic management. The student applies practical solutions in responsibility communications into practice and is able to analyze and compare chosen solutions. The student creates new practical solutions in responsibility communications.

Qualifications

Basic business understanding. Basics of tourism.

Further information

The teacher of this course will evaluate the assignments of the course, based on course evaluation criteria, and you will evaluate your own learning during the course. For passing the course you need to pass all the required assignments and actively attend to the sessions (80 % attendance requirement).

Studying in this course requires that you will participate to the first lecture (Jamk Degree Regulations).
