Objective

The object of the course:
The objective is to reach language skills corresponding to level A2.2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

After completing this course, you can understand the main points of clear standard speech on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, studies and leisure. You can understand simple texts on familiar topics.

You can deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where German is spoken. You can briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans. You can write simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest.

Course competences:
The course prepares and equips you to act and work in an international and multicultural environment.

The learning objectives of the course:
You can apply basic language skills in routine communication situations. You can understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on topics that are familiar to you. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You understand the cultural differences between your home country and German speaking countries.

Starting level: A1.2-A2. Objective: A2-B1 (according to CEFR)

Content

Pronunciation.

Knowledge of culture in German speaking countries (Landeskunde).

Written and spoken German language skills needed in the most common everyday communication situations. Communication and interaction situations e.g. telling about past events, your own interests, experiences, living, studies and work.

Grammar, e.g. present perfect, past tense, subordinate clauses, dative prepositions and two-way prepositions, adjective inflection, genitive case.

Kurssin suorittaminen:
- Osallistut kurssilla Zoom-oppitunneille (läsnäolovaatimus 50%) ja teet niiden lisäksi opettajan antamia itsenäisiä harjoitustehtäviä. Harjoitustehtävät voivat olla tehtäviä oppikirjasta, tehtäviä kurssin Moodle-työtilassa tai Moodle-työtilaan palautettavia kirjallisia ja/tai suullisia tehtäviä.
- Kurssille kuuluu 2 tenttiä, jotka tehdään Exam-studiossa. Painavasta syystä voit sopia opettajan kanssa vaihtoehtoisesta tenttitavasta.
- Kurssille osallistuminen vaatii mikrofonin ja kameran käyttöä.

Tentit:
- Tentit arvioidaan asteikolla "hyväksytty" - "hylätty". Opettaja kuitenkin kertoo palautteessaan, minkä numeerisen arvosanan (1-5) tasolla opiskelijan tenttisuoritus oli.
- Kurssin ensimmäinen tentti avoinna Exam-järjestelmässä aikavälillä 11.3.2026 - 25.3.2026.
- Kurssin toinen tentti avoinna Exam-järjestelmässä aikavälillä 29.4.2026 - 13.5.2026.
- Tarvittaessa tentin voi uusia kahdesti. Uusintatentit tehdään Exam-studiossa sen jälkeen kun ensimmäisen tentin aukioloaika on päättynyt. Tarkan ajankohdan sovit opettajan kanssa.

Arviointi:
- Kurssi arvioidaan asteikolla "hyväksytty" - "hylätty".
- Hyväksytty-merkinnän saaminen edellyttää riittävää osallistumista Zoom-oppitunneille, itsenäisten harjoitustehtävien tekemistä ja tenttien läpäisyä.
- Jos haluat saada kurssista numeroarvioinnin asteikolla 1 – 5, se on mahdollista saada erillisenä todistuksena. Tarve numeeriseen arviointiin on ilmoitettava opettajalle heti opintojakson alussa. Arviointiasteikkoa ei voi enää vaihtaa sen jälkeen kun ensimmäinen tentti on arvioitu.

- Tarvittaessa tentin voi uusia kahdesti. Uusintatentit tehdään Exam-studiossa sen jälkeen kun ensimmäisen tentin aukioloaika on päättynyt. Tarkan ajankohdan sovit opettajan kanssa.

Huomioi tutkintosääntö: Mahdolliset uusinnat suoritettava/läpäistävä viimeistään syyslukukauden 2026 loppuun mennessä.

Student workload

Kurssin laajuus 3 op, joka vastaa 81 tunnin työmäärää (yhden opintopisteen työmäärä 27 tuntia):
- kontaktiopetusta 28 tuntia
- tentit 3 tuntia
- itsenäinen työskentely 50 tuntia (itsenäiset harjoitustehtävät, asioiden itsenäinen kertaaminen, tentteihin valmistautuminen)

Kurssin kesto 14 viikkoa. Kuormitus per viikko n. 5,5 tuntia.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Pass:
You demonstrate a basic command of the language in relation to the course contents and objectives. You can apply your language skills in routine speaking situations, although there may be frequent pauses in speech. You understand the main points of clear speech and short texts on familiar topics. You can write a short text on a familiar topic. You may still have some faltering with pronunciation, vocabulary and language structures.

Fail:
The level of competence does not reach the minimum requirements, or the assignments and exams of the course have not been successfully completed.

NB! If you need a numerical grade (1 - 5), it can be obtained on a separate certificate. The need for a numerical assessment must be communicated to the teacher at the beginning of the course. After the first assessed assignment or test, it is no longer possible to change the grading scale from pass-fail to a numerical scale.

Qualifications

Attained proficiency level A1.2 – A2.1 as per the European Framework of Reference (CEFR) https://europa.eu/europass/en/common-european-framework-reference-language-skills.  

For example, completion of German for beginners 1 and 2 course (altogether 10 ECTS) or high school B3 language courses 1-4, or equivalent proficiency and understanding.
