Exam in Exam room (0-5) Medical calculation (Pass-Fail) Assignments (Pass-Fail) By submitting tasks for an online exam or an online course, the student affirms that their demonstration of knowledge is based on independent work and ethical conduct. Academic misconduct may result in a temporary suspension of up to one year from the university of applied sciences. University of Applied Sciences Act 932/2014, Section 38. To ensure independent competence in online courses, the teacher may, at their discretion, require demonstration of knowledge in supervised conditions or through an oral exam. The teacher will inform the student of the method of demonstrating competence at the beginning of the course.

Objective

The student - is able to act according to ethical principles in elderly care - understands the impact of functional capacity and its changes on the ability of the elderly to carry out daily activities in their living environment - understands the importance of home care in supporting the quality of life and functional capacity of the elderly and is able to promote the independence, safety and overall well-being of the elderly - can identify the most common diseases of the elderly, their symptoms and their impact on functional capacity - understands the importance of nutrition and oral health in the health and functional capacity of the elderly - can assess and implement drug therapy for the elderly, taking into account the effects of ageing on the body.

Ethical principles and decision-making in elderly care Domains of functional capacity, assessment methods and resource orientation The impact of ageing and the environment on functional capacity and the ability to carry out activities of daily living in different environments The most common diseases of the elderly and their impact on functional capacity The significance of nutrition and oral health for an ageing person Cooperation with family and loved ones in elderly care Specific aspects of drug therapy for the elderly

Location and time

25 May–31 July 2026 The orientation will be held on 25 May at 14.00–15.30 via Zoom: https://metropolia.zoom.us/j/69670335821 A virtually delivered period of study in the Moodle learning environment. Optional guidance sessions via Zoom.

Exam schedules

The assignment submission dates will be announced in Moodle. Examination 08.06–31.07.26 1st resit 01.09–13.09.26 2nd resit 05.10–12.10.26 Online assignments and tests can be completed according to your own schedule during the study unit, taking the submission dates into account. The examination grade may be improved in accordance with the degree regulations.
