Content scheduling

The course deals with some basic everyday situations, some key features of the Finnish grammar and elementary vocabulary. The course includes the following topics: - introducing oneself - greetings - getting acquainted - simple conversation related to e.g. shopping and eating out, - elementary grammar

Objective

After the completion of the course, - you are able to communicate in Finnish in some basic everyday situations - you can use simple phrases, express statements and ask questions and you know basic vocabulary - you are familiar with some key features of the Finnish grammar - you can apply your skills in practice, mainly orally but also in writing - you are able to independently expand your vocabulary resources and improve your Finnish skills using different sources.

- online learning in Moodle environment - practice with videos and interactive tasks - independent progress based on weekly schedule - online exam

Materials

The course material can be found on the course platform in Open Learn. The study material is presented in the format of Power Point presentations, videos, audio material, and links to outside internet sources.

Teaching methods

The course is implemented in the online environment (Open Learn). There are no meetings. The studies are based on independent work with the course material. The course includes practices with videos and interactive tasks.

The course develops elementary skills in the Finnish language that are part of general skills for the world of work in Finland.

Exam schedules

The prerequisite of passing the course is successful completion of the online exam (at least 50% of the answers should be correct). Two attempts of taking the exam are automatically allowed.

1 ECTS means 27 hours of student work. The course is 2 ECTS, which means about 54 hours of student work.

Qualifications

The course is suitable for students without prior experience with Finnish language.
