Objective
The student understands the importance of cybersecurity in business, can describe the key principles, and recognizes how cyber threats affect organizations. They are familiar with the responsibilities of leadership and the board, apply risk management and compliance, and are able to suggest ways to improve the organization’s cybersecurity.
Content
The course offers a clear overview of the fundamentals of cybersecurity and its significance in business. Students will be introduced to the key concepts of cybersecurity, the risks that threaten organizations, and the reasons why cybersecurity is an essential part of management. The content covers the responsibilities of leadership and the board, risk management and compliance (including GDPR and NIS2), organizational culture and internal threats, as well as crisis management and business continuity planning. The course is delivered interactively through discussions, group assignments, and real-life case studies, providing business students with practical insight into cybersecurity.

All necessary materials, including articles, reports, and current case examples, will be provided at the beginning of the course. Materials are available in the online learning environment.

4: You apply risk management and compliance consistently and present creative perspectives.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Demonstrates deep understanding of cybersecurity’s role in business. Develops innovative, scalable solutions and shows critical thinking and research-based approach.
Assessment criteria, approved/failed
Pass: You have achieved the core objectives of the course.
Fail: You have not demonstrated sufficient knowledge of cybersecurity principles and application.
Qualifications
No technical expertise is required; the course is especially suitable for business students. This module is part of the JAMK Summer School programme.
