Objective

This course will help you compose and deliver effective--compelling, ethical and well-organized--extemporaneous oral presentations appropriate for a variety of professional contexts. Through frequent guided practice, you will learn to analyze audiences and effectively adapt your oral communication for different organizational stakeholders.

Execution methods

The mode of delivery is in person (classroom teaching ) The activities at the platform Zoom/Canvas with other students deepen the learning in individual and group work, reflection and guidance.
Classroom presence mandatory; lectures are not recorded.

Content

Overcoming fear of speaking; speaking ethics; audience analysis; credibility; attention and interest; informative strategies and presentation aids; persuasive strategies and motivational appeals; crisis communication

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Adequate 1

Knowledge and Understanding: The student demonstrates insufficient understanding of persuasive theory; meets expectations of least two of the following: presentation research and organization, small-group dynamics, supporting media, and (to the extent possible via online modes of interaction) delivery principles.

Transferable skills: The student demonstrates promising but still insufficient ability to compose and deliver effective oral and group presentations in English, and to engage in critical and analytical communication analysis.

Satisfactory 2

Knowledge and Understanding: The student demonstrates acceptable understanding of persuasive theory; meets expectations for three of the following: presentation research and organization, small-group dynamics, supporting media, and (to the extent possible via online modes of interaction) delivery principles.

Transferable skills: The student demonstrates acceptable ability to compose and deliver effective oral and group presentations in English, and to engage in critical and analytical communication analysis.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3

Knowledge and Understanding: The student demonstrates basic understanding of persuasive theory; meets expectations for each of the following: presentation research and organization, small-group dynamics, supporting media, and (to the extent possible via online modes of interaction) delivery principles.
