Objective

The students start learning the Russian language and culture. They will be able to behave according to cultural norms in ordinary everyday situations. They will be able to use appropriate Russian in simple interactive situations. The students will master the most frequent phrases of politeness. They will also understand cultural differences between Finland and Russia.

Content

Cyrillic alphabet, greetings and introducing, Russian names, family and home, discussing studies and work, asking and giving directions, using public transportation

The students can effortlessly understand speech on familiar topics spoken in a normal tempo. They are also able to understand texts on familiar topics. They are able to speak and write in a clear way about familiar themes. Pronunciation is clear and almost correct. The students can understand typical features of the Russian culture.

The students can understand face-to-face speech of simple topics spoken in a normal tempo but fast spoken language may cause some difficulties. They can effortlessly understand texts on familiar topics. They are able to write brief messages. Pronunciation is fairly clear.

The students can fairly effortlessly understand texts dealing with familiar themes. Standard speech spoken in a normal tempo may cause some difficulties in case the speech is long. The students are able to write simple messages. The deficiencies in pronunciation are not disturbing.

The students can understand clear and slow speech handling familiar topics. They can understand simple, brief texts and find the main points in texts handling familiar themes. The students are able to write on familiar topics. They can manage well in routine speaking situations although pronunciation is still defective.

The students can understand basic expressions of a slow standard Russian. They can understand simple texts. They can interact in Russian in simple writing and speaking situations although pronunciation may be incorrect.
