Objective

The object of the course
During the course, you learn the key theoretical concepts and methods of data analytics, business intelligence and knowledge-based management. You understand the impact of data on business management and how data helps you manage business more efficiently.

Course competences
Learning to learn - Student assesses and develops their competence and learning methods in different learning environments. Student is able to acquire, critically assess and appropriately apply the national and international knowledge base and practices of their field.
Business competence - The students know the central theories related to this specialisation option. The students possess at least an advanced beginner’s skills in the practical tasks of the specialisation option.

The learning objectives of the course
After completing the course, you identify, understand and describe the company's core processes. You know how to collect, edit, interpret, and visualize data for business development. You use tools suitable for your work and you understand how information is used to generate value. After completing the course, you have essential information about the possibilities and benefits of data analytics. You can better understand what kind of business models and opportunities are related to the data economy. You also understand from which different sources data can be collected and how to convert data into a suitable format for analysis. You gain practical skills in using applicable software.

Content

The course provides you with basic skills for using data to support decision-making. You learn about business processes and their role in the operation of the organization. You learn how management with information supports decision-making and business planning. You familiarize yourself with data sources, collection methods, storage methods, analysis tools and methods, and data visualization. The course also covers the importance of the ethical use of data and how to use data responsibly and transparently.

Sufficient 1
You recognize the key principles of data analytics, business intelligence and knowledge-based management and know how to use those. You recognize some basic concepts related to data collection, different datasets, and variables. You collect and modify the data you have acquired. You calculate and interpret key figures and form tables and graphs. You identify the basic principles related to the ethical use of data. You use tools in a guided manner.

Satisfactory 2
You understand the key principles of data analytics, business intelligence and knowledge-based management and the uses for those. You master some basic concepts related to data collection, different datasets, and variables. You collect, modify and interpret the data you have acquired. You calculate and interpret simple key figures and create simple tables and charts. You understand the importance of transparent and responsible data use and can provide examples of how these principles are utilized. You use tools almost independently.

Good 3
You master the principles and tools of data analytics, business intelligence and knowledge-based management. You master the basic concepts related to data collection, various data sets and variables. You independently collect and edit data as well as calculate and interpret key figures. You create more complex tables and graphs and use appropriate tools independently. You recognize the importance of using data in decision-making. You apply the ethical principles of data use.

You have a broad understanding of the basic concepts related to data collection, various data sets and variables. You efficiently collect, edit and analyze data.
