Objective

The Production Systems course gives an overview of how to develop a company’s production to make it more competitive and support sustain-able development better. You will learn how to design different areas of the company’s production operations so that you can also take into ac-count the overall cost implications. You understand the importance of value chain management. Your competence will develop from under-standing the sustainable development supporting production operations through thinking about strategic perspectives to making justified choices. You will learn how to analyze production operations using various tools. In addition, you will learn layout design and production system simulation. At the same time, you apply investment calculations to support your decision-making.

Multidisciplinary competence: You have an understanding of the aspects related to sustainable economy and management in industrial business.

Engineering practice: You can develop complex production systems to meet economic, sustainable development supporting and technical requirements.

Research and information retrieval: You can do simulations and analyses for detailed examination and research of technical problems.

Content

The strategic basic choices and production paradigms of production (e.g. Toyota Production System (Lean), BPR, CE, CIM, Constraint Theory). The goals and measurement of production as well as the analysis of production development targets. Systematic factory design, simulation of production systems and production engineer’s economic knowledge.

Qualifications

You have a basic knowledge of the production of piece goods.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1): You are able to understand the basics and terminology of piece production, but you have significant deficiencies in perceiving how things relate to each other.

Satisfactory (2): You understand the basics and terminology of piece production, but you have deficiencies in perceiving how the key things relate to each other.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You master the key aspects of the course, which are understanding the key concepts and methods of piece production. In addition, you can use and apply the relevant development methods to solve piece production problems or improve operations satisfactorily.

Very good (4): You master the key concepts and methods of piece production. In addition, you can apply and analyze them critically in solving and developing piece production problems.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You master the key concepts and methods of piece production and can apply them while critically analyzing and evaluating the solutions and development of production problems.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
