Objective

Preventive maintenance and its planning are an important part of the operations of a modern production plant.

In this course you will learn to identify the development targets and starting points for preventive maintenance. You will learn to recognize what RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) means and what are the steps of RCM. You also will learn to know the basics of the other methods of preventive maintenance. You will learn to use KPIs. You will also learn to take advantage of maintenance research information.

First you will learn the basic concepts of maintenance, like the maintenance types and the methods and operations of the maintenance. Further you will know how to use and choose the basic concepts of maintenance. You will also learn to apply them in practice. You will learn to apply different kind of maintenance methods in practice.

After completing this course, you will understand the importance of modern production plant maintenance and the methods and functions of maintenance. You have learned to identify the basic concepts of maintenance and to apply individual methods in practice, ie to develop maintenance in a production plant.

ENGINEERING PRACTICE
You will gain the ability to develop and apply KPI’s to evaluate the success of preventive maintenance methods. You will gain the ability to apply and further develop a different kind of preventive maintenance methods as needed.

KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
You can identify the development targets and starting points for preventive maintenance for the systematic development of operational reliability in a production plant. You manage the steps of Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM).

MULTIDISCIPLINARY COMPETENCES
You know how to work systematically and purposefully in maintenance expert tasks. You know how to share your own expertise and use the expertise of others to your advantage in developing industrial maintenance.

Content

Identification of maintenance development targets. Backgrounds to the RCM method. The main content and steps of RCM. Differences and applicability of different RCM methods. Carrying out the RCM process and measuring success. Further development of RCM. Other methods of developing preventive maintenance.

Evaluation scale

0-5

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The overall evaluation consists of an exam or a learning diary (alternative methods of completion) and numerically evaluated learning tasks. In addition, an approved performance is also required for other learning tasks and RCM -project.
The student can choose whether to complete the course by exam or by learning diary.

The exams are held three times in accordance with the degree rules.

Adequate (1): You will recognize the concepts and methods of the RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance).

Satisfactory (2): You will recognize the concepts and methods of the RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) and be able to apply them to solutions to industrial maintenance challenges.

Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)

Good (3): You will manage the concepts and the methods of RCM and be able to apply them to solutions to industrial maintenance challenges You are also familiar with other methods of preventive maintenance.

Very good (4): You will manage the concepts and the methods of RCM. You can apply them critically and innovatively in solutions to industrial maintenance challenges. You are also familiar with other methods of preventive maintenance

Evaluation criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You will manage the concepts and methods of the RCM and be able to apply them critically and innovatively in solutions to industrial maintenance challenges. You are also familiar with other methods of preventive maintenance and know how to apply them
