Objective

The object of the course
This course concentrates on interesting topical phenomena in the game industry. We are offering various specific tailormade courses during the academic year related e.g., game audio (new audio technologies, middleware), XR-technologies (AR, VR telepresence), game art, programming and game business. The need for this course rises from the need of the game community, game production programme and the stakeholders from the industry

After completing this course, you will learn new game industry competence in an advanced level which is useful in your career within game industry.

Course competences
Cross-disciplinary competence in games:
Student can apply skills and knowledge in a special field of game production, development or design, or other field of study with link to digital games

Game production competence:
Student can produce content for a game project and can work with the tools in meaningful and systematic way.
Student can produce value for a game project while working in a specific specialist role.

The learning objectives of the course
The content varies and it depends on the resources and needs of the game community. There will be one to two different courses implementations during the academic year and those who have basic or advanced skills and competences in that particular field are able to join the course.

Content

Because of the nature of the course and its alternating topics, the content of the course varies. This course is dedicated to those who are already at a certain level in a specific field and the course is offered not only for the JAMK students but everybody who is motivated, engaged, and has previous skills in the area. The idea is also to support a special advanced community within that particular field to increase crowdsourcing and knowledge sharing among peers

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1): You understand the basic terminology and conventions related to the specific field related to the course content. You can produce basic material and content for with tools and methods related to the course topic.

Satisfactory (2): You can understand the basic terminology and conventions related to game sound design in your own productions. You can create material and content and apply it to other media formats and productions.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3): You fulfil the previous criteria and are capable of being analytical concerning your outcomes. You can compare your work to professional standards and are able to realize points of improvement in your own work.

Very good (4): You fulfil the previous criteria and can evaluate and reflect your choices in the context related to the course topic and able to implement content for different medias from various viewpoints. You understand the professional role from the course topic view point in the game development process.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5): You fulfil the previous criteria and have a comprehensive understanding of the process and content related to the course topic. You are capable for independent artistic-technical work and implement the results for the different type of productions. You are capable to see your own current status in your personal development process - your strong and development points - related to the needs of work life in specific field.
