Objective

The object of the course
After completing this course, you will learn how to enter into contract negotiations, how to protect your organisation’s sales, business relations and intellectual property with legal tools. You will also know the legal liabilities arising from business decisions and how to both avoid and limit possible risks on finances or images with contracts. The ethical code of conduct in sport will be highlighted including sustainable decision-making.

Course competences
Business competence: The student has a broad-based understanding of the business (marketing, services, management, finances, law, etc.).

Ethics competence: The student is able to take responsibility for their own actions and their consequences and reflects on them in accordance with the ethical principles and values of their field. The student is able to influence society based on ethical values.

Sustainable development competence: The student is able to use information related to their field in finding, implementing and establishing sustainable solutions and operating models.

Upon completion of the course, you show some understanding of the key concepts and principles of contract formation and tort law. You are familiar with the logic and value chain of intellectual property rights as a revenue source. You recognise different sources of law and their areas of application. You attempt to assess contract types and possible disputes. You show some responsibility for your own actions and their consequences and reflect on them in accordance with the ethical principles and values of sport. You attempt to influence society based on ethical values. You attempt to use information related to sport legal issues in finding, implementing, and establishing sustainable solutions and operating models.

Content

Legal content of this course will range from subject matter of entering a contract, different sources of law, legal aspects of negotiations, breach of contract and tort law and dispute resolution. Intellectual property rights, trademarks, image rights and naming rights will be covered. Integrity in sports, anti-doping activities and manipulation of competition will be highlighted.
