Objective
The purpose of the course
You know and master the basics of inorganic and organic chemistry, basic concepts and terminology, and are are able to understand chemical phenomena. In addition, you can describe chemical phenomena and are able to apply them to emerging environmental and energy technology solutions.
Competences:
Applying Technology in Practice: You can apply chemical phenomena to solve practical problems using established calculation methods.
Knowledge and Understanding: You comprehend the fundamentals of chemistry.
Content
Structure of matter and states of matter. Formation of compounds, fundamental chemical reactions, and key phenomena affecting compound chemistry. Combustion, corrosion, classification of Materials. Basics of electrochemistry. Fundamentals of organic chemistry. Green chemistry.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Grade 1: You are familiar with basic concepts and terminology, but you have limitations in applying them. You can solve simple fundamental problems adequately.
Grade 2: You are familiar with basic concepts and terminology, but you have limitations in applying them to solutions beyond basic problems. You can satisfactorily solve clear fundamental problems.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Grade 3: You understand most key fundamental chemical phenomena and concepts, and you can apply your knowledge to simple basic cases.
Grade 4: You have a command of key fundamental chemical phenomena and concepts, and you can apply these skills in common chemical problem-solving scenarios.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Grade 5: You master the topics and phenomena of the course, and you can apply these skills critically and innovatively even in relatively challenging situations related to the field of chemistry.

Kurssi koostuu perinteisestä luento-opetuksesta, harjoitustehtävistä, laboratoriotöistä sekä kahdesta välikokeesta.
Tunneille voi osallistua kampuksella tai etänä. Laboratoriotyö tehdään Rajakadun kampuksella.
