You will also learn more about sustainable development in your own field of study or in another destination of your choice. You complete the course independently as an online course.

Teaching methods

Your learning is supported by automated controls and a numbered tab structure. A progress tracking bar (right) supports your independent work. When the tasks in a section appear green, you are ready to move on to the next section.

You can address questions to the course tutors on the News and Frequently Asked Questions tab.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

You have one month to complete the course. You can choose the month in which you complete the course.

If you can not pass the course in the month you have chosen, a rerun will be activated by changing the month of performance. You make the change independently in the Moodle workspace. If you do not receive a pass grade in three (3) attendance months, you will be required to start the course again.

Alternative completion methods

If you already have sufficient knowledge of the basics of sustainable development, you do not need to take the course. You can demonstrate your knowledge by taking the knowledge test in the Getting Started section (T1.1 Knowledge test). If you pass the test, you can apply for a course replacement. Simply passing the competency test is not enough to be considered as a replacement and you must apply for a replacement.

How to apply for replacement:

Identify your skills. Complete the skills test in the Get going section (T1.1)
If you pass the test, save the test result (a certificate of your competence generated by Moodle).
If you do not pass the test, complete the course and all assignments.
Apply for a replacement in Peppi according to Jamk's instructions. Attach the certificate you have saved to your application for replacement.

Student workload

The study of the course is independent, guided by learning tasks. For independent study to produce learning outcomes, you need to pause at the materials and assignments. So don't look for ready-made answers.

The course load is 1 cr, which corresponds to approximately 27 hours of study. We recommend that you complete the course within one month in order to maintain the intensity of learning. The course room will remain open for one month after the end of the study period to allow you to collect the necessary materials.

Content scheduling

The course load is designed to be distributed as follows:

1. Get going - building your own schedule and testing your skills 2 hours
2. Observe sustainability in your everyday life - materials and skills tests 7 hours
3. Get to the fundamentals - materials and skills tests 14 hours
4. Demonstrate your understanding - demonstration of competences 4 hours

Further information for students

The course will be assessed on a pass/fail scale. To receive a pass grade, students must:

Pass all the course assignments within the deadline.
Demonstrate your understanding of the key concepts and objectives of sustainable development.
Identify the importance and aspects of sustainable development in your chosen field.

Competences are demonstrated through Moodle competency tasks. Assessment and Peppi entries will be made within one month after you have completed all the tasks. For the summer semester, the assessment will take place in September. You do not need to report that you have completed the tasks.
