Objective

Purpose of the course
During the course, you develop your career planning skills. You learn about the job opportunities in your field and gain skills for job search. In addition, you learn the basics of working life practices and understand the importance of well-being at work.

The competences of the course are:
- Learning to learn: You plan and schedule your studies based on your career goals.
- Operating in a workplace: You gain skills that support the transition from studies to working life.
- Ethics: You understand the rules and practices of working life.
- Internationality and multiculturalism: You can choose studies that support internationality as part of your PLP.

Learning outcomes:
-You evaluate your own competence, reflect on your professional goals and learn to plan your studies in a goal-orientated way
-You update your personal learning plan (PLP) regularly and have an annual PLP and career guidance discussion with your career tutor.
-You develop the job seeking skills in your field (job search channels, job application, CV, job interview).
-You understand the importance of cooperation and networking in working life.
- You get information on working life practices, such as labor legislation, employment contracts and salary.
- You understand the importance of well-being at work from the perspective of an employee and the organization.
- You know the opportunities for further education.

Content

During the course, you plan your study and career path from your own starting points. To grow as an expert, you identify your interests and utilize the opportunities offered by the curricula of your degree programme. You update your personal learning plan (PLP) regularly and have annual PLP and career guidance discussions with your career tutor.

You develop skills for job search in your own field and know how to make targeted, clear and standout job search documents. You get acquainted with different job search channels. You learn to identify your strengths and market your own competence. You get information on working life practices, which help you to take care of both your rights and obligations as an employee.

Nursing and Midwife degree programmes: AVEKKI-model education

You understand the positive effects of well-being at work from the perspective of the individual and the organization and learn ways to act constructively as part of the work community. You understand the importance of networking and get to know the workplaces in your own field, e.g. with the help of alumni network. You are aware of your further education opportunities and the importance of lifelong learning.

Time and location

The lectures take place mainly during the first and second academic year. In addition, you'll have the annual PLP meeting with your career tutor during the 2nd-4th study years.

Learning materials and recommended literature

The study material consists of material found on Jamk's website: https://www.jamk.fi/en/for-students, intra.jamk.fi and material compiled in Moodle.

Teaching methods

You participate in lectures on Rajakatu campus. In addition, you do learning tasks independently and in groups. The course may include visits to e.g. recruitment events.

You must actively participate in the course three weeks after the start of the implementation in order to keep the place with the implementation.

If you wish, you can use artificial intelligence in the ideation phase of tasks or as a dictionary, but otherwise its use is prohibited.

If the course includes webinars, participating in them requires a working camera, headphones and microphone.

You will receive guidance from your career tutor during lectures and PLP meetings.

Practical training and working life connections

The course includes alumni or company visits.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The learning assignments have one actual return date and two retake deadlines. The dates are announced in the beginning of the course as part of the course schedule. Moodle quizzes measure your competence, and you can try to pass them independently several times.

International connections

In the course, you get to know the internationalization opportunities offered by Jamk as part of your personal learning and career plan.

Alternative completion methods

You may apply for a partial accreditation if you have completed a matching course at a Finnish higher education institution earlier. The career tutor makes the decision for the accredited sections. The annual PLP meetings will be held in any case.

- Lectures organized by the career tutor on campus or online, and independent assignments appr. 45 h
- Annual PLP discussions and preparing for them 2-3 h / year
