Objective
The purpose of the course is to deepen your understanding of advanced mental health promotion. You can define the importance of positive mental health and mental health promotion from different perspectives, on national and international levels. Another purpose is to enhance your skills as an advanced mental health promotor. You can recognize, identify, and reflect future possibilities and challenges related to mental health promotion.
Competences: Proactive development, Counseling of patients, clients and family members, Health assessment and direct clinical care
By the end of the course, you will have the competence to analyze the current situation and anticipate development needs of mental health promotion in your own field of expertise. You are able to reflect and apply national and international mental health promotion strategies, programs, projects and novel mental health promotion and prevention interventions at different levels (individual, family, communal and societal). You will also have competence to apply the best evidence available to create and develop mental health promotive counselling interventions and patient education methods. Additionally, you will be able to implement collaborative mental health promoting methods in practice.
Content
Current global and national phenomena affecting to mental health
Overview of mental health promotion strategies, programs, and projects (in municipal-, national-, EU- and global levels)
Mental health promotion competencies and advanced mental health promotion (e.g., positive mental health, trauma-informed care, collaboration / coproduction)
Participation, and prevention of exclusion from the individual, family, communal and societal perspectives
Mental health promotive counselling interventions (including mobile-and-internet-based interventions) and patient education (e.g., psychoeducation)
Qualifications
Bachelor degree in the fields of nursing, healthcare, social care or rehabilitation.

The student can define the major national and international mental health promotion strategies and programs. He/She can explain the importance of mental health promotion. The student can describe mental health promotive counselling interventions and patient education methods.
2 Satisfactory
The student can define the importance of major national and international mental health promotion strategies and programs in reducing mental health disorders. He/She can demonstrate the importance of mental health promotion at different levels. The student can apply evidence-based knowledge to describe mental health promotive counselling interventions and patient education methods in his/her own field of expertise.

The student can apply and evaluate evidence-based knowledge to develop innovative mental health promotive counselling interventions and patient education methods in collaboration with different actors. He/She can implement advanced mental health promoting methods in practice and evaluate their impact.
