Objective

Purpose of the course
The operating environment is challenged by many societal crises that require the organisation to prepare for and anticipate environmental and safety risks. Reconciling legislation and external requirements with organisational requirements and well-being at work requires diverse competence in managing safety and environmental risks.

Environmental and safety management plays an important role in the success and sustainability of an organisation and creates wider positive impact on society.

This course primarily supports the following Sustainable Development Goals: 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17.

Material will be published in an online learning environment.

Teaching methods

Study methods
Environment and safety management is an online course. You study in the Moodle learning environment. In Moodle you will find course instructions, schedules, assignments and study materials. You participate in the introductory webinar of the study course, which includes the orientation and introductory lecture of the study course. You can also participate voluntary webinars wherein you reflect and share what you have learned communally with your peer students.

You will conduct independent information gathering and apply what you have learned in learning assignments done in group works or individually.

1) You are able to evaluate your previous skills and set goals for developing your skills (written learning assignment, individual assignment)
2) You are able to demonstrate your knowledge of environmental and safety management in the exam (evaluated individual task, evaluation weight 50%)
3) As a written individual assignment, you make a development plan for the organization of your choice from the perspective of environmental and safety management (evaluable individual assignment, evaluation weight 50%).
4) You assess the skills you have acquired during the course (written learning assignment, individual assignment)

Pre-assignment: As a pre-assignment, you will get familiarising yourself with the content, objectives and completion of the course and by setting learning goals for yourself. By submitting the pre-assignment to Moodle learning environment in required timetable. This confirms your participation in the course.

Guidance
You will receive guidance in the Moodle learning environment (e.g. question and answer forum) and webinars. You will also receive guidance from your peer students.

Feedback
You will receive both qualitative and quantitative evaluation and feedback onto your examination, group work and reflective assignments.

You give feedback on the course (mid-term and final feedback on the implementation).

You will prepare a development plan for the organization of your choice during the study course.

Your learning is evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively, based on the competence goals, using: the feedback given by the teacher and the student's self-assessment.

The learning during the study course will be evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively based on the learning outcomes and by using many different methods, such as feedback giving from the teacher, the student's own self-assessment and feedback received from peers during webinars.
