Objective

The students know the electrical safety regulations and are able to observe them. They know how electrical installations are designed and implemented in a safe manner (in accordance with the standards). They are able to choose right safety and protective devices for the work to be performed.
The students have the necessary competence to be able to pass the "Electrical Safety Regulations 1" Exam, which is one prerequisite for applying “Electricity Proficiency 1” Certificate The other prerequisites are a relevant degree/qualification (e.g. B.Sc. in Engineering) and sufficient work experience. The Electrical Safety Regulations Exam is valid for 5 years. The Electrical Proficiency Certificate is required for positions such as Electrical Site Manager and Production Manager.

Content

Basics of electric power engineering, Electrical Safety Act, Decision of the Ministry of Trade and Industry on electrical safety, instructions of the Finnish Safety Technology Authority (TUKES), Standards SFS 6002, SFS 6001 and SFS 6000.

Qualifications

The knowledge of electric power systems and electrical installations.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

To pass the course, the student has to pass “Electrical Safety Regulations 1" Exam, which is organized by TUKES. Other ways for evaluation of the learning outcomes can also be used, if needed.

Teaching methods

Problem-based learning is used as a learning method. Learning takes place through independently performed and returned learning tasks. The completion of learning tasks is guided by video instructions and during contact lessons.
