Objective

Lab-environments are JAMK's new way to strengthen your pedagogical skills and competences. In this course you are able to participate in structured and supported pedagogical development projects and deepen your pedagogical skills. The projects can be related to improvement of pedagogical activities, participation in research or development and innovation (R&D&I) activities. Projects can be offered by the School of Professional Teacher Education or by your own organisation.

Course competences
In PEDA Lab course you are able to develop future competence, development competence, agency competence and interaction competence by participating in supported development activities, reflecting on them and publishing the results.

You will get an opportunity to utilise experiential learning and to become familiar with the basic principles of Design-Based Research. You are capable of applying user-oriented and innovative methods in planning focused development projects. You are able to create an implementation plan based on the principles of Design-Based Research. You are able to work constructively in multidisciplinary development teams, and disseminate the results of the activities.

Content

During this course, you will explore how to design and create a pedagogical development project and how to make an implementation plan. You will discover the basic principles of Design-Based Research and to apply it in your own work context.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

The learning outcomes are used to assess future competence and development competence
• You are familiar with the project design process and the basics of Design-Based Research
• You can create an project implementation plan based on the principles of Design-Based Research
• You are capable of searching for information independently and can find up-to-date sources of information, research and reports important to your development project

The learning outcomes are used to assess the agency competence and interaction competence
• You are able to participate in and contribute actively to the agreed development project tasks and participate in the team coaching discussions.
• You are competent to publish the results of development project either on your own or with the team
