Objective
The student is familiar with protocols and principles used on the Internet. The student recognizes Internet Protocol Version 4 and Version 6 addresses and name service hierarchies attached to them. The student has basic knowledge of components used in Internet traffic, such as hypertext transfer protocol, transmission control protocol, Internet Protocol and Ethernet switching.
The student identifies threats and risks associated with data transfer in public networks and understands basic principles of denial of service attacks. The student understands the connection of network operations to companies' business and internalizes the vulnerability of business through attacks from electronic systems. The student knows simple defense mechanisms.
Content
The course includes basics of common Internet network protocols. The use of Internet network protocols is studied and interpreted when connecting with public services. Vulnerabilities in protocols and their implementations are discussed in the course. Common attacks are presented utilizing practical exercises, and traditional defense mechanisms are introduced.
