Objective

The students know the central models and frameworks used in children's occupational therapy. They understand the significance of client- and family centerdness and multiprofessional collaboration in children's rehabilitation and in consultation. The students are able to encounter different children in situations of occupational therapy and can use tests and occupation in the assessment of the child. They understand the significance of play and physical exercise in children's development, and they can assess children's play. The students know the methods of children's occupational therapy and can analyze and use play and occupation to support children's development. The students know the possibilities of the public and private sector as the providers of children's occupational therapy services.

Content

Through lectures and exercises, the students become familiar with encountering the family and with the central principles of children's occupational therapy, assessment of children's occupational therapy and assessment methods, with the use of play, physical exercise and occupation in therapy and with the models and framework of children's occupational therapy. The students also become familiar with encountering different children (e.g. those with mental and social symptoms, those with learning difficulties or cerebral palsy) in occupational therapy.

Qualifications

The students know the basic concepts and values of occupational therapy. They have a clear picture of the work of an occupational therapist. They know the basics of psychology.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Professional skills in the exam, in written and occupational assignments.
