Objective

You will be able to communicate in Finnish in everyday communication situations. You will strengthen your language learning strategies and skills for lifelong and outside classroom learning.
The goal is to improve your language proficiency level and become familiar with the YKI test.
You will study content according to the themes of the YKI test. You will practice the four different language skills: comprehension of text, writing, comprehension of speech, and speaking.
You will also learn more about Finnish society and culture.

Content

You will develop:
• Your ability to communicate in Finnish both in everyday written and oral communication situations.
• Your language learning strategies.
• Active language learning outside the classroom.
• Cultural competence.

You will study:
• Task types and subfields of the YKI test.
• Spoken language and Finnish communication culture.
• Use of language learning strategies.
• Reflecting on your own skills and strengths.
• More about Finnish society and culture.

Successfully completed Finnish 5 at Jamk or CEFR level B1.1. (https://europass.cedefop.europa.eu/sites/default/files/cefr-en.pdf)

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

You will be able to communicate in everyday communication situations and conversations. You will understand general language at a normal pace and short factual texts. You will engage in using Finnish also outside the classroom in various and new situations. You will practice the subfields and task types of the YKI test.

There are online lectures once a week, on Thursdays from 16:30 to 18:30. You will need a microphone, headphones, and a webcam to participate.

In addition, students will complete independent exercises and assignments.

The language of instruction for the course is Finnish.

At the end of the course, there will be a written and oral exam.
