Objective

Business simulation improves your understanding and capabilities of running global business operations of a firm in a dynamic, competitive environment. The simulation game is used in advanced undergraduate, graduate and executive MBA programs in higher education and corporate training programs. In addition, the platform provides an opportunity to experience strategic positions for executing essential decisions for the company.

At the end of the course, you are expected:
1) You are able to apply theoretical knowledge and experience in real-time challenges. Analyzing the market, following the competition, advancing in the technology, understanding consumer demand and their portfolio, executing the investment decision, organizing the expenses, human resource development and promoting the research and development operations.

2) You are able to critically review, analyze and understand information available from the gaming platform such as market reports, income statements and balance sheets.

3) You are able to apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge to analyze business challenges and trends to propose or take in action in the simulated market of technology business.

The course aims to develop the following COMPETENCES:

You develop critical and analytical mindset that helps you to study and review existing knowledge in the light of relevant learning resources and learning methods; you to acquire new knowledge; and develops your intellectual capabilities to seek conclusions and draw inferences in various contexts.
To achieve this competence, you will:

Proactive development
You develop solutions in the light of current as well as anticipated situations and challenges in business by applying knowledge, critical reasoning and analytical skills. You ensure that these solutions are feasible, relevant, creative, user-friendly, and sustainable as well as underline active cooperation among different actors.
To achieve this competence, you will:
_ act as proactive and assessing the competitors decisions
_act is analyzing the marketing intelligence
_develop careful reasoning and argument in the deference of your decisions

Internationality and multiculturalism
You work in multicultural and international environments and networks in order to develop knowledge and communication skills as well as develop empathy and appreciation for other cultures. You communicate responsibly and effectively in English through written, verbal, non-verbal and digital formats individually as well as a team member in diverse set-tings.
To achieve this competence, you will:

Content

Strategic decision making, technology business dynamics, research and development, in-sourcing/outsourcing, competition benchmark, managing finances in multinational organization, business analytics, business reporting, marketing analytics.

Qualifications

Basic courses of Management, Marketing and Financial Management (JAMK Degree students) or equivalent course of basics of management (exchange students) completed.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient (1):
You will get a grade of ‘one' or 'two' if you are able to demonstrate a basic level of evidence in the following competences:
Learning to learn
Proactive development
Internationality and multiculturalism

You show some but limited ability to analyze and evaluate business information relevant to decision-making.
You show basic skills in analyzing business information and reasoning on that to make decisions. The decision lack strategic backing. Your decisions lead to poor results measured as development of shareholder value.
You are able to transmit and justify some of your team´s ideas and results in English but business-style communication practice is lacking.
You integrate to the team and its process and give some input into the team´s achievement.

Satisfactory (2):

You show basic ability to analyze and evaluate business information relevant to decision-making.

You show skills in analyzing business information and reasoning on that to make decisions, but the available data is used in a limited way and the long-term planning is not well applied.

You are able to transmit and justify the most important of your team´s ideas and results in English. The communication lacks partly the touch of professional business reporting.

You integrate to the team, commit to do your part and are a member of the team´s achievement.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good (3) –
You will get a grade of ‘three' of 'four' if you are able to demonstrate a good level of evidence in the following competences:
You show clear ability to analyze and evaluate business information relevant to decision-making.
Learning to learn
Proactive development
Internationality and multiculturalism

You show skills in analyzing business information and reasoning on that to make decisions. You show skills in creating and applying long-term visions and strategies to guide decision-making. Your decisions
You are to transmit and justify some of your team´s ideas and results in English and show skills of applying some business practices of communication.
You integrate to the team and its process and give an important input into the team´s achievement.


Very Good (4) –
You show ability to analyze internal and external business information relevant to decision-making.
You and your team are able to act based on the data available. You are well able to apply long-term view in your decision-making. Your decisions lead to positive (simulation) business success measured as creation of shareholder value.
You communicate with clarity your team´s decisions and results in English in a mostly business-level manner.
You integrate well to the team and give a fair share of input into the team´s achievement.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

Excellent (5) –
You will get a grade of ‘five’ if you are able to demonstrate an excellent level of evidence in the following competences:

Internationality and multiculturalism

You show wide set of skill in analyzing internal and external business information relevant to decision-making from various viewpoints.
You and your team are able to assess options of action based on the data available, and apply long-term strategizing and planning in your decision-making. Your decisions lead to high-level (simulation) business success measured as shareholder value.
You communicate with depth and clarity your team´s decisions and results in English in a business-level manner.
You integrate well to the team, show commitment and give an important input into the team´s achievement.
