Objectives
Upon completion of the course you will be able to:
- Employ theoretical and conceptual knowledge to identify and analyze business problems in global contexts
- Identify and place into practice information-based decision making approaches to business and managerial problems
- Interpret and analyze complex business issues from multiple perspectives and critically review academic literature and other relevant information sources
- Apply proven theoretical and conceptual knowledge of global business challenges in multicultural contexts
- Operate effectively within a multicultural team environment demonstrating teambuilding, leadership and intercultural communication skills
- Communicate effectively in English in oral, written and electronic formats using communication and information technology for business applications, and is able to prepare and present reports and presentations.

Student has capability to turn the theories and concepts into justifiable management solutions, policies and action plans in application to business cases
Student has command of communication tools and skills to communicate his ideas and findings both orally and in written form – all this in English

Managing organizations, models of management, analysis of the business environment, corporate social responsibility, visionary and strategic management, planning, budgeting and strategy, organizational structure and culture, managing change, influence and power, motivation, communication, managingteams.

Alternative completion methods
You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.

Student workload consists of:

Content scheduling
Per student 2 x 1,5 contact sessions/week between 2.9-29.11.2024, after which the exams and returns of the final assignment

- exams 2 x 0-25 pts

Minimum for passing the course 45 pts. Points 45-54 Grade 1, 55-64 Grade 2 etc.
Upgrading possibility according to JAMK study rules only valid for exams.

Evaluation criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Sufficient (1): You are familiar with a restricted part of theories and concepts related to the modern management practice. Intellectual skills: You are obviously aware of some methods and concepts related to analysis and interpretation of managerial situations but skills need improvement, as well as the skills to critically review various kinds of reference sources. You can only partially utilize that knowledge in approaching managerial challenges in an analytical way and proposing action to be taken. Your contribution to joint working process in a multicultural team is of marginal level.
Satisfactory (2) You show evidence of having learned some theories and concepts related to modern management and oral communications. You show ability to use some ways of interpret and analyze situations in management and shows some capabilities to critical review of source materials of different kind. You show some ability to turn concepts and ideas into justified managerial strategy and action proposals. Your ability to participate to the joint work of the multicultural team is on a very basic level.
Evaluation criteria, good (3-4)
Good (3) You show proofs of understanding the core theories and concepts of management Intellectual skills: You show good command of most common ways of interpreting and analyzing managerial situations and knowledge on how to critically review source literature and other sources of information. You are able to approach managerial situations and challenges analytically, utilizing well the learned concepts and tools. You can communicate your ideas in both oral and written communications, but room for improvement in communication exists. You can bring your part to the joint work of a multicultural team and interact in the team environment.
Very Good (4) You show high level of command of basic theories and concepts related to modern management. You show convincing command of methods of interpreting and analyzing managerial situations and can in a very good manner review reference sources with a critical eye. You show skills in applying conceptual and theoretical knowledge to managerial challenges. You can communicate well your ideas in both oral and written communications, and contributes very positively to the joint work in a multicultural team.

Excellent (5) You demonstrate exceptional theoretical and conceptual knowledge of modern management processes. You shows high level capability in interpreting and analyzing managerial situations and is able to use critically review multiple sources of knowledge. You show high level of ability to identify and analyze managerial situations and propose viable solutions to them. You are able to present and justify ideas and findings in a convincing manner in oral and written communications.
