Key learning outcomes
In the Degree Programme in Team Academy, you will develop your competence in team entrepreneurship. At the Team Academy, you will learn to build future-proof business and develop your competence in authentic customer projects. You will gain competence in learning and working in different teams. At the Team Academy, you will learn the latest theoretical knowledge and gain skills to apply it in practice. During the studies, you will learn how to continue as an entrepreneur after graduation.
At the Team Academy, you will acquire competence in continuous learning, creativity, sales, marketing and customer-focused approaches, project and team management, communication and responsible team entrepreneurship, and develop a global mindset. You will increase your competence in team-based learning and by working on practical projects and applying the latest theory in practice.
Education content and professional growth and know-how
During the first autumn, you will study basic studies in business management. At the beginning of the spring semester, you will move to the Team Academy, your own learning team will be assigned to you, and you will set up a co-operative together with your team. After the first academic year, you will deepen your competence as a team entrepreneur in future-proof business and team entrepreneurship. Team Academy offers studies on agile team learning, interaction and facilitation, productive management and renewable leadership, marketing communications, planning of sales, customer relationships and marketing, development of team enterprises, and sustainable business. You will gain skills for building new business models, organisations committed to continuous learning, and a culture of experimentation. You will broaden your thinking and skills related to internationalisation.
You will deepen your competence as a team entrepreneur in specialisation studies in the themes of leadership, marketing or creativity. With the help of elective studies, you will strengthen your competence in sales, marketing, event production, internationalisation, leadership, coaching or entrepreneurship.
At the Team Academy, competence is built in learning teams. You will have the same team throughout your studies. The team will support you in achieving your learning goals. The team provides encouragement and helps in the completion of bold experiments. In the team, you will acquire the ability to think and do things together. The team will help you grow into your best potential.
In addition to team learning, competence is built by reading and listening to new theoretical knowledge. We promote a mindset of curiosity, an inquisitive approach, and the ability to ask insightful questions. You will apply theory to practice in written reflections, practical experiments and customer projects. As a team entrepreneur, you will create your own programme for reading to develop your thinking and conceptual understanding. Your theoretical knowledge is shared and refined in dialogue with the team.
At the Team Academy, competence building centres around hands-on experience and learning by doing in real-world projects. In authentic customer projects, you will learn about planning and organising, teamwork and management. You will learn to solve customer issues creatively and productively. Through hands-on experience, you will also develop your self-management skills and ability to work with a variety of team members. The goal of working together with the customer is to foster a value-generating and interactive customer relationship.
If you come up with a business idea while pursuing your studies, it is possible to develop it during your studies at the Team Academy or with the support of studies at the Startup Factory. Practical training related to studies is primarily conducted through customer projects of the team’s cooperative. You can complete the thesis in a practical manner as commissioned by the customer. Long-term customer relationships make it possible to build your own professional network, continue as an entrepreneur or find employment in a customer’s company.
The Team Academy has a coaching team consisting of coaches. Their task is to support your growth as a responsible team entrepreneur and business professional. At the same time, they propel the teams towards becoming top teams and, if necessary, provide sparring to projects. They all have a strong background in the world of work and entrepreneurship and a network that helps them succeed.
The Team Academy has an international approach to learning. Our network has partner universities in Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Germany and Canada, among others. In addition, we have access to Jamk’s international network. The Team Academy also has a strong national network including the TAMK Proakatemia (Tampere University of Applied Sciences), BusinessAcademy (Turku University of Applied Sciences) and Y-Akatemia Business Academy (Karelia University of Applied Sciences). Team Academy employees are part of a national and international network of team entrepreneurs that enables sustainable business and international project activities.
Flexible studies
The studies are implemented as daytime contact teaching in the Team Academy’s facilities in Jyväskylä. Distance work is implemented as appropriate. In addition to learning by doing and team learning, the studies include independent work.
You can choose your alternative or elective studies from EduFutura partner institutions (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia) and international studies from European EUDRES higher education institutions. You can also choose from Finnish and foreign partner universities, such as other universities of applied sciences and universities. You can apply for accreditation of higher education studies that you have completed elsewhere.
Working life oriented learning
Learning at the Team Academy takes place in your own team and the team’s company. A company is created, its business idea is defined, and its goods and services are brought to market. A brand is built for the company, and customers are acquired for it. Throughout the studies, learning takes place in authentic customer projects that involve money. Learning takes place together with customers and the world of work. Customer projects, practical training and theses gain content from genuine problems and challenges in the world of work.
Learning takes place together with alumni and customers on a daily basis. Projects, customer visits, joint events and mentoring relationships are ways to learn together with actors in the world of work. The personal reading programme also helps students understand the current state of the world of work and future megatrends at a conceptual level.
Career opportunities and employment
The learning contents and methods of the Team Academy and the alumni network offer diverse opportunities for building your own career. A learning agreement, drafted twice a year on an annual basis, helps you define your own learning objectives or learning contents. Together with the team and coach, you will look for the best projects and the latest theoretical knowledge to facilitate your desired learning goals. Thirty per cent of all graduates continue their career as entrepreneurs.
Professional profiles of graduates from the Team Academy include entrepreneur, coach, instructor, consultant, teacher, president, development manager, supervisor, personnel manager, team leader, events producer, events coordinator, circular economy specialist, responsibility communications specialist, marketing manager, marketing coordinator, communications specialist, marketing and communications planner, concept planner, finance administration consultant, sales manager, sales expert, sales negotiator, customer service manager, project manager, project worker and producer.
Qualifications
There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.
Further studies
You may, after graduating and gaining at least two years of work experience, apply for a master's degree level education. You can continue your studies by applying for e.g. Master's degree programmes in universities, vocational teacher education or Master's degree programmes abroad. The university of applied sciences offers opportunities for competence development in various institutes, such as the open university of applied sciences, specialisation training and work-oriented continuing education.
Education planning
The advisory board of the business unit actively offers feedback on how to develop the degree. Constant and diverse collaboration is maintained with professionals and alumni in the region. The team coaches have strong networks in the business sector. The team entrepreneurs provide comprehensive feedback on the study content and the pedagogical model used for its implementation. Systematic feedback is collected in individual progress reviews organised twice a year. The team coaches meet weekly to discuss the quality development of the education programme. The Team Academy follows the principles of a learning organisation, using joint learning and dialogue to foster growth.
