Objective

The object of the course
In this course, you will familiarize yourself with the basic concepts and definitions of jurisprudence, as well as the legislation governing contract law and environmental legislation, principles of contract law, and legal practice. You will develop your own expertise in contract law matters and apply what you have learned in practical situations. Contract law is the most central legal area, and you will need the knowledge of contract law not only in your studies, but also constantly in your work, irrespective of whether you work in the private or public sector.

The course will be completed by participating in lecture teaching, which is carried out as face-to-face teaching in a classroom setting and, according to a separate announcement, also as online lectures (webinar) as well as independently following online lectures offered by external parties (eg. Eduhouse). In addition, the course includes learning assignments and exercises as well as classroom pair/group assignments.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The grade of the course is determined based on the final exam held in Moodle on April 25 - 27, 2025.
If the exam is rejected, a re-exam will be held in Moodle for these parts. The first re-exam opens on May 9, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. and closes on May 11, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. The second re-exam opens on May 16, 2025 at 7:00 a.m. and closes on May 18, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. You must register for the re-exam no later than two days before the exam date by sending an email to the teacher. You can only take part in the exam after all the learning / lesson assignments have been returned. More detailed information about the exam will be announced in Moodle in connection with the exam.

Alternative completion methods

The use of an optional completion method is subject to a well-founded reason that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Student workload

The learning assignments will mainly consist of court cases related to the application of legislation and the preparation of documents. Two (2) weeks have been reserved for completing each learning assignment so that the assignment will open and close at a specified time.

independent pair/group work 35 h
independent study / completion of learning assignments 40 h

Content scheduling

The lectures will be held on a weekly basis on a variety of topics. At the same time, the student will complete learning assignments/exercises in accordance with the given schedule. The pair assignments/exercises conducted in lieu of the weekly lectures will be separately agreed upon in connection with the classes.

Further information for students

Written feedback on learning assignments approximately every 3-4 weeks after the assigned time for returning the assignment. The pair/group assignments held or presented in class are reviewed and feedback is received in class, and these are also associated with self- and peer-evaluation.

The course is completed as an independent study by completing the online lectures (recorded webinars) and passing the course assignments and the final exam. Assignments have a pass/fail evaluation and a numerical evaluation in the final exam. All assignments and the exam must be passed.

You can complete the course within your own schedule.

The course includes a final exam, which the student completes independently in Moodle.

Objectives

The object of the course
In this course, you will familiarize yourself with the basic concepts and definitions of jurisprudence, as well as the legislation governing contract law and environmental legislation, principles of contract law, and legal practice. You will develop your own expertise in contract law matters and apply what you have learned in practical situations. Contract law is the most central legal area, and you will need the knowledge of contract law not only in your studies, but also constantly in your work, irrespective of whether you work in the private or public sector.

The course covers basic concepts related to jurisprudence and sustainable development, questions related to making and terminating a contract, and invalidity. The starting points related to the interpretation of agreements and related jurisprudence.

Teaching methods

The course will be completed by participating in lecture teaching, which is carried out as face-to-face teaching in a classroom setting and, according to a separate announcement, also as online lectures (webinar) as well as independently following online lectures offered by external parties (eg. Eduhouse). In addition, the course includes learning assignments and exercises as well as classroom pair/group assignments.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The grade of the study course is determined on the basis of the final exam held in Moodle on November 22 - 24, 2024.
If the exam is rejected, a re-exam will be held in Moodle for these parts. The first re-examination opens on December 6, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. and closes on December 8, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. The second re-examination opens on December 13, 2024 at 7:00 a.m. and closes on December 15, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. You must register for the re-exam no later than two days before the exam date by sending an email to the teacher. You can only take part in the exam after all the learning / lesson assignments have been returned. More detailed information about the exam will be announced in Moodle in connection with the exam.

Alternative completion methods

The use of an optional completion method is subject to a well-founded reason that will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Student workload

The learning assignments will mainly consist of court cases related to the application of legislation and the preparation of documents. Two (2) weeks have been reserved for completing each learning assignment so that the assignment will open and close at a specified time.

Content scheduling

The lectures will be held on a weekly basis on a variety of topics. At the same time, the student will complete learning assignments/exercises in accordance with the given schedule. The pair assignments/exercises conducted in lieu of the weekly lectures will be separately agreed upon in connection with the classes.
