Objectives
Purpose of the course:
After completing this course you will know the renewable energy part in Finnish energy system, and significance and possibilities in countryside environment. You understand the distribution of energy consumption to different use and ongoing shifts in development. You know modern and flexible energy systems in rural areas and the linkage to energy efficiency and circular economy. You know biogas production raw materials, production technology and utilization possibilities of final products.

Energy consumption in different use
Significance of energy efficiency and low-carbon solutions in energy supply
Solar energy technologies and use, basics of hybrid systems in rural areas
Modern and flexible energy grids and storage
Renewable energy as part of circular economy
Principles of emission control in energy production

Reports and materials presented in Finnish.
Teaching methods
Lectures, assignments, independent working. In addition to lectures, contact teaching may include 1-2 company visits.
The course includes three assignments.
The course utilizes web learning environment.
Exam dates and retake possibilities
The exam will be held in April 2023. The first renewal will take place in May 2023 and the second renewal after the summer of 2023.
International connections
The course provides an overview of renewable energy management mechanisms and the state from a global and EU perspective.

Contact teaching 45 h; independent work (information retrieval, reading and reviewing materials, assignments) 90 h.
