Objective
Purpose of the course
In the course, you get to know the key concepts and sectors of the bioeconomy. You will learn about agricultural and forestry production, the environmental and energy issues of agriculture, and the smart bioeconomy. You will learn current themes in the field in a practical way and make observations, reflecting on them from different perspectives of sustainability, using the knowledge base. After completing the study course, you will have an overview of the bioeconomy.
Competence goals
You understand the basic concepts of the bioeconomy, the most important sectors and the current characteristics of the rural operating environment in Finland. You know the key production forms of the bioeconomy and their prerequisites as well as limitations from different perspectives of sustainability.

Introduction to the basics of the bioeconomy and the industry in Finland.
Perspectives of sustainability as enablers and limitations of bioeconomy operational sectors.
Agriculture, forestry, water and environment, renewable energy and smart bioeconomy

The course is passed (HYV) when the student achieves the learning outcomes of the course, i.e.
Understands the basic concepts of the bioeconomy, the main sectors and the characteristics of the rural operating environment in Finland, as well as the main forms of agricultural and forestry production and their conditions and constraints from different aspects of sustainability.
