The purpose of the course
In this course you will learn the midwifery theory of intrapartum care for woman and her family.

Learning outcomes of the course
After completing this course, you will understand and be able to justify the factors related to the birth experience of the woman and family giving birth

You will be able to identify, assess and anticipate the sexual and reproductive health promotion factors of the woman and family giving birth, the risks of childbirth, and high-risk births based on evidence.

You will be able to analyze the resource-based process thinking and be able to make evidence-based decisions in planning and evaluating the multi-professional midwifery work of the woman and family during childbirth.

You will know and be able to justify the key midwifery interventions, methods of helping and digital solutions and technology used in caring the fetus, woman and family during childbirth.

In this course you will learn the theory of midwifery for women and their families during childbirh.
In this Study Course, you will familiarize yourself with the following themes:
The formation of the childbirth experience of the woman and family giving birth

The professional role of a midwife in the care of the woman and family during childbirth

Physiological childbirth

Evidence-based monitoring methods for labor progression and fetal well-being

Pain relief and supporting the management during childbirth

Risk factors and defects of childbirth and the transformation of low-risk childbirth into high-risk childbirth

Main midwifery interventions and methods in caring the fetus, woman and family during childbirth

Evidence-based sexual and reproductive health nursing process of the woman and family during childbirth

First aid and follow-up of the newborn

Multiculturalism in childbirth

Qualifications

The student masters the contents of anatomy and physiology as well as pharmacology and medicine related to the above mentioned nursing studies.
The student masters the methods of health promotion, internal medicine, mental health, substance abuse and crisis management, acute, operative nursing, family and pediatric nursing.
The student knows the principles of evidence-based decision making.

Teaching methods

n the course, you study midwifery in low- and high-risk birth care.
The study of midwifery in low-risk childbirth takes place in contact teaching and as independent study. During the study period, you will participate in seven theoretical contact lessons. In addition to these, the Study Course has a functional pain management day, where you prepare to present a nonpharmacological pain relief method in a small group. After the theory part, you will study the manual skills of birth care in a lab learning environment. At the end of your studies, you demonstrate your skills with a written exam.

You study high-risk pregnancy midwifery by actively participating in contact teaching and studying independently in the Moodle online learning environment. At the end of your studies, you demonstrate your skills in a written exam.

You can reflect on a critical evaluation of the application of theoretical knowledge in practice with the help of workshop days and the international MiMo day. The course includes two workshop days, for which you prepare by preparing evidence-based learning tasks. The timings of the workshop days are at the end of the 1st and 2nd delivery room practice.
