Objective

Life cycle thinking is part of the core of business today. The importance of sustainable development and responsibility has also been raised legislatively as an operative measure of operations.

In this course, you will learn to identify and utilize the drivers related to the life cycle of products and the requirements related to sustainable business. You will learn to understand the meaning of the requirements in the different phases of the product, process or service life cycle. You recognize the basics of the system design process as well as the principles and methods of product information and configuration management. You visualize business opportunities during the life cycle and related contracts from the perspective of the service provider. You know the lifecycle-related reporting responsibilities and obligations for companies.

Content

The key themes are the product development process and the design phase as part of the life cycle, services during the life cycle and related contracts, circular economy and emissions, indicators, responsibility and reporting during the life cycle.

Learning materials and recommended literature

Shall be updated closer to the start of the course.

Teaching methods

The teaching and learning methods used are: online lectures, discussions and working together, as well as learning tasks. Reflection and feedback are used to support learning. Course implementation is in Finnish.

Practical training and working life connections

Individual and group work during the course can be done for the needs of your own company.

Exam dates and retake possibilities

The course does not have an exam.

Acceptance procedures are described in the degree regulations and the study guide.

Student workload

Five credits correspond to a workload of approx. 135 hours.
Shared contacts online approx. 15 h.
Advance assignments for contact sessions approx. 20 h.
Two larger learning assignments approx. 70 h.
Other independent study approx. 30 h.

Content scheduling

The course begins with the start of the programme on 11 January 2025 and ends on 15 March 2025.
The other joint online contacts are 30 January 2025 and 20 February 2025. Between contact sessions, there will be individual and small group supervision of learning tasks.

Further information for students

The tools for evaluating the learning process are a learning task focused on knowledge, a learning task focused on applied skills, and reflection.
Competence assessment is based on criteria and the assessment is done by the teacher in charge when all learning tasks have been completed. The assessment is based on the assessment of exercises and learning tasks (grade 0...5), as well as on the students' peer assessment and the student's own reflection.
