Objective

The students read music scores analytically. They comprehend the possible harmonic function of chords and the most immediate chord scales and are able when neeeded of expanding the chords according to style in the context of blues, bebop and modal jazz.

The students understand variable harmony tonal as well as modal and
improvisation's basic principles, and acquire the readiness to adapt theoretical knowledge connected with improvisation in practice.
They also understand the development of melodic/harmonic way of thinking in Western music.

The students understand the meaning of musical analysis in musical interpretation, accompanying and improvisation, and acquire the conceptual readiness for arranging and composition studies.

The students are able to evaluate course content in a critically constructive manner. They are able to evaluate own skills and the development of those.

Pass (S):
The students read music analytically. They show understanding of blues, bebop and modal music's basic principles of melodic-harmonic dimensions:
-pentatonic, blues forms and blues influences on tonal music
-dominant chains
-tonal improvisation
-parental scale chords and polychords
-upper structures and triadic improvisation
-third based harmony, quartal harmony and dissonant modal harmony

The studens are able to obtain, handle and evaluate their acquired knowledge critically. They assume responsibility of their own and the group's learning and follows given directions.
