Objective

The students understand and identify the most frequent rhythms, melodic and harmonic structures in pop/jazz. They understand the relationship between scales and chordal functions. They are able to analyse the forms and structures of Western popular music.

The students are able to identify by ear the main rhythms, melodies and harmonic structures of pop/jazz. They are able to interpret musical wholes.

They are capable of self-evaluation in their skills and development

Content

MUSIC THEORY

The basics of music theory:
intervals, consonance-dissonance, tonalities and the circle of fifths, chords and realization short-hand, chordal function and degree marks
terminology of pop/jazz
functional harmony, chord functions in major and minor

Solfege basics:
identifying of seventh chords
diatonic melodies and chordal inversions,
rhythms, chord progressions and structure comprehension and writing.

Pass (S)
The students understand the principles of pop/jazz fluently. They understand the basics of Western light music's harmony, melody and rhythm.

They are able to evaluate their skills and development.

Fail 0:

The course is failed when the minimal requirements are not met.
