Objective
Sheet metal technology is widely used in machine building industry products. Many of the sheet metal manufacturing technologies are also applicable to heavy mechanical engineering industry. You learn about sheet metal manufacturing methods and materials used in sheet metal products. You understand the importance of manufacturability and economic factors in sheet metal product design. You are familiar with the possibilities and restrictions of sheet metal structures. After you have passed the course, you will be able to design simple sheet metal products.
EA-KW EUR-ACE Knowledge and understanding
You are familiar with the manufacturing methods and the automation techniques of sheet metal product production and understand their possibilities and restrictions. In addition, you are familiar with the materials as well as their formability and corrosion tolerances.
EA-EC EUR-ACE Engineering practice
You have the ability to combine theory and practice to solve engineering problems in sheet metal product manufacturing and design. You understand the meaning of standardization in sheet metal product design and manufacturing.
EA-CT EUR-ACE Communication and team-working:
You learn to communicate both orally and in writing by attending seminar presentations and preparing a assignment report. You learn teamwork skills and are able to consider different kind of persons in the team.
Content
Fabrication methods of sheet metal products in machine workshops. Die cutting technology. General sheet metal work technologies (cutting, bending, forming and joining). Mechanical joining methods. Surface treatments. Sheet metal materials.
Qualifications
You master the basics of common sheet metal work methods, as well as related machines and devices used in machine workshops. You have basic knowledge of material technology and you know the different groups of materials, their properties and their most common uses in technical applications. You are able to make workshop- and assembly drawings and you master the 3D modelling and making workshop drawings from a 3D model.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
Assessment consists of exam 40%, learning assignments 20% and project work 40%.
Sufficient (1): You identify the basic knowledge and terminology but can only sufficiently apply them to simple planning tasks.
Satisfactory (2): You are familiar with the most common production methods and materials or sheet metal products as well as other basics of the course, but you can only apply them satisfactorily in the design and development tasks
Assessment criteria, good (3)
Good (3): You master the essential knowledge and skills covered by the course. You are able to make well-grounded decisions and to:
- choose production methods and machines suitable for sheet metal products
- develop production methods and systems of sheet metal products
- select materials suitable for sheet metal products
- design sheet metal products taking into consideration their production.
Very good (4): You master the essential knowledge and skills and can apply the knowledge acquired in a critical and innovative manner to design and production development tasks of sheet metal products.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
