Objective

TSAST Electrotechnical and other basic competence

The student knows the relevant modelling methods of DC and AC circuits, can use systematic analysis methods to find out the currents and voltages of DC and AC circuit elements. The sudent masters the ac-power calculation and knows the meaning of power factor. The student knows the basics of dynamic RL- and RC- circuits and resonance. He (she) knows the main function of symmetrical three-phase system.

TSASL Competence in electricity and equipment safety

The student has the ability to complete the basic electrotechnical measurements and knows the requirements of safety working in the electrical laboratory.

EA-KN Knowledge and understanding

The student has the knowledge and understanding of the scientific and mathematical principles that are central to their branch of engineering.

EA-EN Engineering analysis
The student has the ability to select and apply relevant analytic and modelling methods.

Content

DC and AC circuit analysis methods: circuit transformations, the loop (knotpoint) method, Thevenin method (Norton) and superposition method. Phase vector calculation of ac-system. Complex power. Resonance circuits. Dynamic RL- and RC-circuits. Symmetrical three-phase system analysis.

Qualifications

Basics of DC and AC and familiarity with electrical safety.
The basic of mathematics.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Sufficient 1: The student knows the relevant modelling methods of DC and AC circuits. He (she) has the ability to use a few systematic analysis methods to solve simple dc- and ac-circuits. The student can complete electrotechnical measurements and knows the basic requirements of electrical safety.

Satisfactory 2: The student knows the relevant modelling methods of DC and AC circuits. He (she) has the ability to use the systematic analysis methods to solve simple dc- and ac-circuits. The student can complete electrotechnical measurements and knows the basic requirements of electrical safety.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

Good 3: The student knows the relevant modelling methods of DC and AC circuits. He (she) has the ability to use the systematic analysis methods to solve different types of dc- and ac-circuits. He (she) can recognize how to apply the theoretical knowledge in more practical applications. The student can complete electrotechnical measurements and knows the basic requirements of electrical safety.

Very good 4: The student masters well the relevant modelling methods of DC and AC circuits. He (she) has the ability to independently use the systematic analysis methods to solve different types of dc- and ac-circuits. The student has a good overall picture and can apply different types of systematic analysis methods to electric circuits. He (she) has a good ability to apply the theoretical knowledge in more practical applications. The student can complete electrotechnical measurements and knows the basic requirements of electrical safety.

He (she) has an excellent ability to apply the theoretical knowledge in more practical applications. The student can complete electrotechnical measurements and knows the basic requirements of electrical safety.
