Key learning outcomes

The student acquires the skills, knowledge and competence required for utilising the possibilities brought by digitalisation in supply chain management. Technological changes (such as the internet of things, data analytics, digital manufacturing) cause significant changes in supply chain management, requiring new kinds of competences. In this degree programme, students will be equipped for managing the supply chains of the future in which data analysis and management are ever more important.

Significant changes in consumer trade have already changed and will further change the traditional supply chain model. How will consumer behaviour combining online shopping and traditional shops change in the coming years? According to one scenario, the two will become complementary behaviour models which will together form a multichannel complex, the management of which is one of the key focus areas in the programme.

Managing increasingly more complicated and vulnerable supply chains requires more rigorous risk management than before. As such, the students in the programme are trained in risk management. Having completed the degree, the students can apply working life research and development methods in developing their own competence and organisation. The students are able to react quickly to changes, create new operating models and manage change processes.

Education content and professional growth and know-how

Study module focusing on the utilisation of the opportunities provided by digitalisation in supply chain management.

The master’s degree programme in digital supply chain is strongly future-oriented. The central contents are connected to the management of digital supply chains and utilising digitalisation in supply chain control. Recognising new technologies and the possibilities they offer, as well as their successful practical application, are at the heart of the programme.

Flexible studies

The studies are carried out as part-time studies with classroom learning days on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. There are approximately two classroom learning days per month; the time in between classroom learning days is used for independent study. The “Research-based Development” course will be offered online.

Students have a choice of alternative or elective studies offered by partner universities in Finland and abroad, such as other universities of applied sciences (CampusOnline), universities and educational institutions involved in the EduFutura collaboration (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia). Higher level studies completed elsewhere may be accredited as part of your degree. The student must have a certificate or some other document to prove that they have completed the studies. Skills acquired elsewhere can also be described and demonstrated to enable accreditation. Further information is available in the Study Guide.

Working life oriented learning

The education is strongly working life related. Concrete examples of this are lectures given by visiting lecturers from working life, the linking of learning assignments to the development of the student’s own organisation and, consequently, to the development of working life on a broader scale. We also make company visits to interesting frontrunner companies.

Career opportunities and employment

The master's degree programme in digital supply chain is designed for individuals with a strong desire to lead, manage, plan and develop the supply chains of the future by utilising the opportunities offered by digitalisation. The student must possess an interest in new technology and on how to best use it in supply chain management.

In the future, utilisation of digitalisation is one of the key success factors of any organisation, and with this degree you can do your part in helping your organisation in its future challenges. Developing your personal competence will also open up new career opportunities as the developer of technology-driven supply chains.

Having completed a master’s degree at a university of applied sciences, graduates possess the skills required for developing the business operations of organisations and actively producing new competences. This will develop your organisation and increase your know-how.

You will gain significant benefit from networking and exchanging expertise with the other colleagues participating in the programme.

Qualifications

There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.

Further studies

The graduate may apply to continue on to postgraduate studies in science or arts at universities (Act 558/2009, Section 37) and in the school of professional teacher education. Studies can be continued by applying for corresponding post-degree education at universities abroad, for example. A university of applied sciences also provides opportunities for continuing education in the form of specialisation studies, open studies, an online study portal (CampusOnline) and working life based continuing education.

Education planning

Working-life representatives, academic experts, master’s degree students from universities of applied sciences and JAMK specialists from various fields have been involved in the planning of the education. The periodic evaluation of the Master’s Degree Programme in Logistics was conducted in 2016, and since then, the education has been developed to correspond to the authentic working life needs even better. The assessment was carried out by a group consisting of a representative of working life, an academic expert, students and teachers. In addition, an advisory board that includes a group of logistics experts and the management of various companies has been regularly involved in the planning of the programme. The programme is constantly developed based on the continuing feedback from students active in working life.
