Objective

The purpose of this course is to deepen your understanding in responsible tourism, especially in social responsibility. You will learn what accessibility means in tourism context and different concepts within accessible tourism. After this course you understand the basic principles of accessibility from different customers perspectives and can apply the knowledge in different phases of customer journey in tourism.

Time and location

The course uses Moodle e-learning workspace, where you will find course information and study materials. There are five webinars during this course and in between the webinars you will study independently according to the instructions given by teachers.

Teaching methods

This course is an online course, including webinars, independent studying, assessment of accessibility of a tourism company, development idea creation/execution, discussion and co-learning.

Practical training and working life connections

During this course you will observe accessibility in a tourism company and assess the operative environment from the perspective of different customer groups. In addition, you create a development plan for the company.

International connections

You will learn from international examples of accessible tourism companies.

Alternative completion methods

You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (More info: Jamk Degree Regulations, section 17.)

Student workload

Orientation into the course (5 hours): Familiarizing yourself with learning objectives, contents, assignments; organizing your time and own goals for learning; pre-assignment.

Theoretical knowledge (55 hours): You will attend the webinars of this course, that will take 10 hours (2h x 5) altogether and in addition you will study materials independently.

Practical learning (50 hours): You will observe and assess accessibility of a tourism company and create a development plan, co-learning.

Self-assessment (20 hours): Reflection of your own learning.

In the beginning of the course you will orientate to the course. During the course independent studying and attending webinars to enhance your theoretical knowledge of the topic. Observing and assessing a tourism company and creating a development plan. In addition, reflection of your own learning and co-learning during the course.

Time and location

The course starts on 28th October when Moodle workspace will be opened and the students get pre-assignment for the course. There are five webinars on Zoom during this course and in between the webinars students study independently according to the instructions given by the tutor. The course ends on 18th December.

Teaching methods

This course is an online course, and requires participation in webinars, independent study skills, execution of an independent company visit, completion of assignments (pre-assignment and report), discussion and presentation of results, and assessment of own learning.

Practical training and working life connections

During this course, you will execute an independent visit to a tourism company. Visiting lecturers and cases from the industry sharing their experiences from the theme.

International connections

Internationalisation aspect is accommodated to this implementation using also international examples and material of accessible tourism.

Alternative completion methods

You have the right to apply for recognition of your studies if you have prior learning (e.g. university studies completed elsewhere) that can be accredited towards the degree you are currently completing.

The recognition of prior learning is possible in three primary ways: accreditation (replacement or inclusion), recognition of informal learning and studification. More precise info: JAMK Degree Regulations, section 17.

Student workload

Orientation into the course (5 hours): Familiarizing yourself with learning objectives, contents, assignments; organizing your time and the own goals for learning; pre-assignment.

Theoretical knowledge (55 hours): You will attend to the webinars of this course, that will take completely 10 hours (2h x 5) and in addition you will study materials independently 50 hours.

Practical learning (50 hours): You will implement a tourism company visit and recognize the accessibility on operating environment. You will work with the course assignment to link the theoretical knowledge into the practice. You will also prepare to present your practical findings for your peer students.

Self-assessment (20 hours): You will have a learning diary during this course and based on that assess your learnings.

Content scheduling

In the beginning of the course you will orientate to the course and by independent working and attending webinars you will enhance your theoretical knowledge of the theme. In the middle of the course, you will visit on tourism company and after that you will work with the assignment to link the theoretical knowledge and operating environment with the support of the webinars.

The teacher of this course will evaluate the assignments of the course, based on course evaluation criteria, and you will evaluate your own learning during the course. For passing the course you need to complete all the required assignments.
