Purpose
In this course you will be able to independently work as a midwife for a pregnant woman and family

Outcomes
After completing the course, you will be able to carry out midwifery work for pregnant women and families in accordance with the principles of professional activity in a multidisciplinary sexual and reproductive health service system.

You will be able to establish a secure and confidential working relationship with pregnant women and their families, taking into account their cultural background. You recognize difficult and sensitive things and know how to talk to them with families.

You can apply the principles of empowerment-based sexual and reproductive health promotion, you can prevent and address the risk factors of pregnancy, anticipate and identify high-risk pregnancies and participate in treatment in a multi-professional manner.

You can apply process thinking and you can make evidence-based decisions in the planning, implementation and evaluation of guidance and care for a pregnant woman and family, even in
unpredictable situations.

You know the key research and assistance methods for pregnant women, the fetus and the family, as well as the related digitalisation and care technology, and you can apply and evaluate them in the work of midwives for pregnant women and families.

You know the different partners in the field of midwifery for pregnant women and families and know how to work as a midwifery expert in a multi-professional team in the sexual and reproductive health service system.

You know how to lead your own activities and recognize the importance of the team in managing midwifery. You will be able to critically review your own skills and develop yourself professionally.

You can evaluate and apply the principles of sustainable development in midwifery.

Professional practice in midwifery for low- and high-risk pregnancies in accordance with the above objectives.

Theoretical knowledge of midwifery in pregnant women and families.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed

Professional practise is assessed as approved/failed according to separate assessment criteria. The assessment criteria are visible in the electronic training guidance environment.

Content scheduling

Professional practice after theory.

The training is done in 3 parts:
- part I 6 cr = 162 h, in the early stages of midwifery studies
- part II 5 cr = 135 h and part III 11 cr = 297 h at the end of the studies leading to midwifery
- 10 postnatal checkups need to be accomplished in practical training
