Qualifications

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)
1 Approved: The students hardly command the main technical and interpretative facts in their playing. Their sound quality and intonation are mostly deficient. Their performance is throughout musically modest, and there remains much to be desired in stylistic expression and overall impression. They cannot project a will to interpret or the works' character. The students can hardly evaluate their skills, their conditions for continuous development at their instrument are weak. At this level the students' knowledge and skills lack command. The repertoire chosen is inadequate for the level.
2 Acceptable: The students have a fair command of the most important technical and interpretative facts. Intonation is often deficient. There is intention to observe score markings, but this is done in a mechanical way impeding projection and work character. To some extent the student is capable of self-evaluation and has some readiness for continued development in the main instrument. The course's knowledge and skills are somewhat under control. Repertoire choice, considering the course level and the students' skills, are insufficient. The assumption of responsibility for learning and development are weak. Under the proper guidance the students are able to prepare, organize and market a concert.
Assessment criteria, good (3)
3 Good: The student's performance at its best moments shows good technique and touching interpretation. A professional approach is discernible. The performance is musical and stylistically correct. The score reading is sufficiently good and the character of the music is projected. Tempo and rhythmic handling, phrasing, intonation, dynamics and nuance need further development. The students are capable of adequate self-evaluation and have what it takes for further instrumental development. The students have absorbed the knowledge and skills expected in the course sufficiently. They assume responsibility for their learning and development. They are able to prepare, organize and market a concert.
4 Praiseworthy: The students show occasionally praiseworthy technique and will to interpret. A professional approach can be discerned and their performance is musical. A many-sided technique serves the interpretation and their performance contains touching and convincing moments. Phrasing is natural, the playing is mostly clean and there is sensitivity towards harmonic changes, dynamics and nuancing are used richly. The renditions are stylistically correct and a personal approach to interpretation is heard. The performance as a whole is convincing. The students command large structures. They are capable of self-evaluation and have what it takes to continue further learning. There is sufficient command of the course requirements. The students take responsibility of their learning and their many-sided development. They are able to prepare, organize and market a concert.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
5 Excellent: The students show excellent technique and interpretation in their performances. A professional approach in discerned and their performance is musical. A many-sided technique serves the interpretation and their performance is touching. Kolmantena vuonna suoritettu käytännön valmiuksien näyttö huomioidaan neljännen vuoden pääinstrumenttiopintojen arvioinnissa.
Opiskelijan oikeus instrumenttiopintoihin:
Muussa tapauksessa seuraavan lukuvuoden instrumenttiopetus joutuu tarkasteluun.
Jos opiskelijalla on opinnot aloittaessaan suoritettuna aiempia korkeakoulutasoisia instrumenttiopintoja, niin annettavan instrumenttiopetuksen määrä arvioidaan opiskelijakohtaisesti. Tutkinnon osaamistavoitteen saavuttamiseen tarvittavaa instrumenttiopetuksen määrää arvioitaessa otetaan huomioon opiskelijan ennen opintojen alkua saavuttama instrumentin osaamistaso. Tutkinto-ohjelman päällikkö päättää annettavan opetuksen määrän opintojen alussa.
