Key learning outcomes
As a logistics engineer, you are able to form a comprehensive view of business operations. You are able to plan logistics solutions and assess the effects of solutions both from the point of view of an individual company and the entire supply chain. You understand how international supply chains and company networks produce customer-oriented service entities.
As a logistics engineer, you are able to retrieve information as well as carry out analyses and make decisions while taking technical, economic and sustainable development viewpoints into consideration. In addition to professional competence, you are able to work in constructive interaction and you get good skills for working in the international operating environment of logistics.
Education content and professional growth and know-how
The degree consists of studies common to all, advanced studies based on your choices and practical training. The common studies include professional subjects in logistics as well as studies in natural sciences, technology, and languages and communication.
Complementary studies can be selected in the fields of transport, internal logistics, procurement, circular economy, business management or entrepreneurship. You can also complete complementary studies during an exchange study period abroad.
The teaching methods include online studies, working life-orientated exercises and projects, laboratory exercises, information system and software exercises, lectures and company visits.
Your competence will develop and expand during your studies. After completing your qualification, in addition to professional expertise, you will also have the competence to act in constructive interaction with members of the work community and gain good capabilities for working in the international operating environment of logistics.
Flexible studies
The studies can be completed flexibly and, for example, online studies are available for independent study. You can also complete studies in the summer.
You can choose your alternative or elective studies from EduFutura partner institutions (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia) and international studies from European EUDRES higher education institutions. You can also choose from Finnish and foreign partner universities, such as other universities of applied sciences and universities. You can apply for accreditation of higher education studies that you have completed elsewhere.
Working life oriented learning
Working life oriented learning is included in bachelor’s degree courses throughout the studies. These include practical training to promote professional skills, the thesis and various working life projects. At Jamk University of Applied Sciences, the operating model for working life oriented and student-driven learning is called JAMK Future Factory®. It combines working life operators, students, Jamk experts and working life oriented LAB environments and other learning environments. In addition to multidisciplinary and working life oriented project studies, it offers you as a student a chance to develop your future working life skills, career paths and networks.
During your studies, you will have the opportunity to learn in a working life-orientated manner through studification. The term studification refers to combining studies with work, project studies, activities in the Future Factory and so on. As agreed with the teacher, you will draw up and document a plan for studification.
Career opportunities and employment
As a logistics engineer, you can work in a wide variety of positions in industry, commerce, public administration and companies offering logistics solutions. Logistics experts are needed in organisations of all sizes and in all fields. Your job title may be logistics expert, procurement engineer, logistics manager, buyer, terminal manager, transport planner, production planner, forwarder or development engineer.
Qualifications
There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.
Further studies
You may, after graduating and gaining at least two years of work experience, apply for a master's degree level education. You can continue your studies by applying for e.g. Master's degree programmes in universities, vocational teacher education or Master's degree programmes abroad. The university of applied sciences offers opportunities for competence development in various institutes, such as the open university of applied sciences, specialisation training and work-oriented continuing education.
Education planning
The curriculum has been drafted in cooperation with students and representatives from working life. The viewpoints of these parties have been utilised in outlining the learning objectives and the competences produced by the degree. The viewpoints were mapped through surveys, themed interviews, regular advisory board work and discussion events.
