From the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, you will graduate as an ICT expert who is able to work in expert tasks related to software development. Our education programme centres around the development of modern web applications. Upon graduation, you will have the proficiency to design, implement and test web and mobile applications. Education content and professional growth and know-how
Studies in the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology take 3.5 years to complete (210 ECTS credits). The studies are practical in nature and have a strong focus on the advancement of professional skills. In basic studies, you will study matters related to working in the ICT sector and general transferable skills. You will develop your competence in web technologies, programming, databases, cloud services and digital media. You will also study business and software production. Some of the basic studies are implemented in English together with the English-language Degree Programme in Business Information Technology (Game Production).
After completing your basic studies, you can steer your studies in the direction that suits you best. In accordance with the orientation of the degree programme, you can focus on modern web application development, in which case you will delve deeper into programming, various web technologies, cloud services, artificial intelligence, data processing and software testing. However, if you notice that your interests and strengths lie more in the area of digital services and business, you will have the opportunity to complete related courses offered by other degree programmes and educational institutions. These studies may be related to, for example, digital marketing and content production or search engine optimisation.
You will learn about project work by participating in the software projects organized at the end of the first and second year of study. In these projects, you apply what you've learned together with your team by developing your own software product either based on the students' own concepts and ideas or company assignments. In the third year, you participate in a half-year long Ticorporate product development project, where you can play different roles, such as Scrum master, programmer and tester, depending on your interest and competence. As part of the Ticorporate project, you will also write your thesis, the topic of which is closely related to your project.
At the end of the studies, you will complete a five-month practical training period in ICT companies, such as partner companies of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, or in other organisations.
Flexible studies
As a student in the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, you will mainly study in contact teaching on Jamk’s main campus. In addition to contact teaching, some of the courses are implemented fully or partially online, allowing you to study at a convenient time and place.
You can choose your alternative or elective studies from EduJyväskylä partner institutions (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia) and international studies from European EUDRES higher education institutions. You can also choose from Finnish and foreign partner universities, such as other universities of applied sciences and universities. You can apply for accreditation of higher education studies that you have completed elsewhere.

Throughout your bachelor's studies, you will engage in learning that is focused on preparing you for the working world. Projects, teamwork, practical training and a thesis based on a company’s needs enable the practical application of the knowledge and skills you have acquired. They also deepen your knowledge of various business areas relevant to ICT companies.
The Degree Programme in Business Information Technology collaborates with ICT companies. This opens up opportunities for you to create networks in the world of work already during your studies. Company representatives visit events organised by the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology on an annual basis and offer practical training, jobs and thesis topics.
