Key learning outcomes
The focus of the bachelor’s degree programme in International Business is to offer heavily valued competences, which are the outcomes of necessary knowledge, skills, and interactions in the learning environment, to become responsible managers of tomorrow who can develop creative and sustainable solutions to global business challenges, explore new business opportunities in global markets, and manage business operations efficiently, ethically, and responsibly in an international work environment and multicultural teams.
Education content and professional growth and know-how
Your professional growth will be led by a wide range of portfolios of courses, thesis, practical training, projects, and study abroad, among others, in order to enable you to employ theoretical knowledge and critical thinking and skills to identify and analyse complex business problems, find their solutions and make rational decisions. A well-established tutoring system, which starts at the very beginning of the studies and continues until you graduate, will provide you with the care and guidance necessary for your personal and professional growth. The tutoring system will enable you to make personal learning plans and discuss with your tutors from time to time about your development needs, which will be synchronised with your professional goals so that you subsequently make informed choices. The academic track system will provide you with an ecosystem which will enable you to acquire several competences in the specific field, under the guidance of a specialist faculty member, and apply them in making intellectual contributions and finding sustainable business solutions. You will write your bachelor’s thesis and project reports and work in multicultural and international professional networks. Furthermore, the academic track system will provide you with a researcher’s mindset, via which you will have the attitude and aptitude of knowledge seeking, critical thinking, and analytical reasoning. You will assess your targeted as well as acquired competences and identify development targets in consultation with your tutor teachers on a regular basis with observable effect from the beginning of your studies.
Flexible studies
You will study in a flexible learning environment including in-class activities and virtual learning. The full-time study period ranges from three years to three-and-a-half years. There are opportunities to enrol in some fully virtual courses as well.
You can choose your alternative or elective studies from EduFutura partner institutions (University of Jyväskylä and Gradia) and international studies from European EUDRES higher education institutions. You can also choose from Finnish and foreign partner universities, such as other universities of applied sciences and universities. You can apply for accreditation of higher education studies that you have completed elsewhere.
Working life oriented learning
You will experience working life cooperation on an ongoing basis in the programme's curriculum. Corporate interaction is achieved through projects, practical training, the thesis, alumni networks and guest lectures delivered by corporate executives and alumni. Working life cooperation improves the quality of learning through enhanced student engagement and increases the likelihood of student employability.
Career opportunities and employment
You will study in an environment in which your career and employment will get considerable attention. The IB programme curriculum is designed in a way that you will acquire all the competences to either become a successful entrepreneur or be gainfully employed in the corporate sector. The IB alumni has received a vast variety of employment opportunities with a special focus on global markets and internationalisation.
Qualifications
There are no specific degree-related or statutory qualification requirements in the field.
Further studies
You may, after graduating and gaining at least two years of work experience, apply for a master's degree level education. You can continue your studies by applying for e.g. Master's degree programmes in universities, vocational teacher education or Master's degree programmes abroad. The university of applied sciences offers opportunities for competence development in various institutes, such as the open university of applied sciences, specialisation training and work-oriented continuing education.
Education planning
The Jamk School of Business' Professional Advisory Board and International Academic Board share their input in the curricula planning process. The school's Academic Board is also a vital stakeholder in this process. The competences are defined in accordance with Jamk's strategy, and the School of Business’s niche areas. The results of alumni surveys and student feedback are considered in the planning and implementation of the curriculum. The curriculum planning also incorporates feedback received from representatives of working life, students, faculty of accredited partner institutions and accreditation bodies such as the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).
